Recently I have been tweeting like crazy for eimagine. My goal is 5 business-related tweets a day, in which I carbon copy eimagine. I have learned so much from my experiences on Twitter, made a lot of new friends (“followers”), and have found out who the experts are on several different subjects on the twittersphere. One of my coworkers told me that with all the tweets I was posting, I was like a Twitter tornado for the company. You can be one for your company too. Here are some tips that I have learned from my experiences on Twitter.

Finding Subjects to Tweet About
The first question you should ask yourself is … what subjects should I tweet about? Well … what is your company good at? Marketing, programming, project management, SEO, logistics? Whatever it might be, that is what you should tweet about! eimagine Technology group is good at programming and project management, so those are the topics I chose to tweet about.

Finding the Right Hash Tags

Once you figure out what topics to tweet about, the next thing you need to do is figure out what hashtags to use in searches. Searching on Twitter using hashtags is a great way to find content to tweet about. Since I picked programming and project management as my topics to tweet about, I found relevant hashtags on twitter to search on to find content relevant to the subjects I have chosen. Some examples are: #mydyncrm, #sharepoint, #dotnet, #PMP.

Now you can search Twitter using the hashtags to find relevant content in the subjects that you want to tweet about. When you tweet, you should use these same hashtags so that others can find your tweets. Hashtags are a great way to get people to follow you or retweet you, people with similar backgrounds.

Finding the Subject Matter Experts
Once you start searching with the same hashtags, day after day, you will eventually see who the experts are in the subjects you are searching on. You can start to determine which users are tweeting useful content, which users are tweeting more often, and which users or companies are frequently retweeted. Start retweeting the useful content that is relevant to your company. I like to add ‘cc: @thinketg’ at the end of my tweet so that when I tweet people know I am representing eimagine.

Finding the Relevant, Active Blogs
After a few weeks of tweeting, you will start to find some blogs referenced in tweets from a lot in your subject matter experts (and retweeted by you). The blogs that show up frequently in tweets are presumably going to be the most active blogs, which means the content will be current and relevant. Now that you know the blogs to look at, you can create your own tweets rather than always retweeting other people’s tweets.

Finding the Expert in You
Once you start tweeting on your own, you may become known as a subject matter expert yourself. You will soon get more followers and people retweeting your tweets. Make sure to keep using relevant hashtags so that other people can find your content. You should still retweet other’s tweets, but you now have some of your own relevant content to bring to the knowledge pool.
